Can President Trump Change the Name of the Gulf to the “Gulf of America”?

Major geographic and geologic features shared by several countries often have different names in each of them.

On Day One of his Presidency Donald Trump signed an Executive Order renaming the former Gulf of Mexico to be henceforth known as the Gulf of America.

His Executive Order also restored the name of Mt. McKinley in Alaska, which President Obama had renamed “Denali.”

We like both name changes, but that’s not our issue. The question we will look at is whether the President has the authority to change geographic names.

Deportations and the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause

The Deportations have begun, and some bad hombres have been sent home, but Dems voice opposition. The law’s on Trump’s side.

Democrat leaders — mayors, governors, even school district board members — continue to resist President Trump’s program to deport millions of illegal aliens.

President Trump made deportation one of his most significant campaign promises, telling audiences all over the country that he would implement the largest deportation effort in history. His promise to begin deportations on Day One won support and applause, and likely was one of the issues that propelled his campaign to Election Day success.

“On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out,” Trump told a huge audience at Madison Square Garden. “I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”

How Secure is the U.S. Dollar as the World’s Reserve Currency?

Will Trump’s 100% Tariffs on countries flirting with the proposed BRICS currency, be forced back to the U.S. dollar?

The United States dollar is no longer backed by gold, and besides, we’re not even sure how much gold we still have.

There was a time when anyone could walk into any bank in the U.S., hand the teller a $10 bill and get back a $10 gold Eagle. If you gave the teller $20 in currency and asked for gold, you’d get a $20 gold Double Eagle. Well, those days are long gone — F.D.R. ended that. But as you can see, when dollars are readily exchangable for gold, the dollar has an intrinsic value. If your $20 bill can be exchanged for a $20 gold Double Eagle coin weighing (approximately) one troy ounce, you don’t need to be a math genius to know that the price of gold was $20 an ounce, back in 1849. What this meant was that the dollar was worth a lot more than “the paper it was printed on.” It was worth a measure of gold. The law required the Federal Reserve to hold gold equal to 40 percent of the value of the currency it issued. Our dollars could not be printed faster than the nation could accumulate additional gold.

Nicole Shanahan Talks about California Avocados, Coffee, even Bananas.

Shanahan: We can grow wonderful avocados, coffee, even bananas in southern California, and the price difference is minimal.

Do we really need Mexican avocados? Are California avocados plentiful and even better than the produce that comes from Mexico? Will a tariff really affect the price of avocados? Might a quality California avocado cost about 25¢ more than its Mexican counterpart? Is the Mexico avocado cheaper because the workers are paid so much less in Mexico? What part do the Mexican cartels play in bringing Mexican avocados to American markets?

In an interesting interview, Nicole Shanahan tours her farm in southern California with Chef Andrew Grueland and talks about avocados, coffee beans and bananas, all of which “grow great in California,” and how the price might be affected by tariffs on Mexican produce.

Can Metformin Extend Your Lifespan?

Can Metformin improve your health and increase the years spent in good health? The studies are encouraging.

There is mounting evidence (though this evidence is not accepted by many medical professionals) that Metformin, long sold and prescribed as a diabetes medicine, adds years to an expected lifespan, even in pre-diabetics and in non-diabetics. Here’s a very informative video of two Canadian MDs discussing the pros-and-cons of Metformin. Though they are very positive on Metformin increasing lifespan with few side-effects in few people, at the end they both state that they would not take it. One would not take it because he does a lot of exercise and says that for people who work-out regularly it is not advised; the other questions the ethics of living longer and thinks that people should instead try to live longer by lifestyle changes. But, overall, we think it is very fair to say that these Medical Doctors are very positive on the longevity benefits of Metformin. The video is very informative.

Is Science Just Too Politicized by the Left?

Do scientists really seek the truth, or are they just as politically partisan as their progressive benefactors?

Every scientist will tell you that science is not a political venture, that science is about truth, and let the chips fall where they may. This axiom is enitely refreshing, providing legitimacy to science. But do scientists really operate this way or are they (or at least many of them) entirely partisan in their thinking?
